Downtown with Rich Kimball is pleased to announce the addition of Ryan Waning to the broadcast team starting on Monday, February 1. Waning will join hosts Rich Kimball and Bryan Stackpole every afternoon on the long-running program, which features a guest-driven mix of sports and entertainment.
Waning, a long-time stand-up comedian and University of Maine alum, is no stranger to the airwaves. He has served as guest host, filling in for Kimball whenever he’s away broadcasting Black Bear football games, and has been a Friday regular on the the show for nearly two years.
During his time at UMaine, Ryan wrote sports for the AP and was a member of the student radio station’s broadcast crew. As a comedian, he got his start in Portland at the now-closed Comedy Connection, entering his first contest there at the age of 14. Since then he has performed hundreds of shows all over the country on some of the most important stages in the business and has opened for acts as diverse as Bob Marley and Doug Stanhope.
“We are beyond thrilled to have Ryan join us full time”, said host Rich Kimball. “Everyone knows that Ryan is one of the funniest people in Maine but he also has a tremendous depth of understanding when it comes to sports. Whether it’s baseball, basketball, hockey, or his encyclopedic knowledge of CAA football, he’ll be a great compliment to the team”, Kimball added. “We’re also proud of the fact that at a time when some shows are forced to make cutbacks, Downtown is able to continue it’s growth, thanks to the great support of our sponsors and listeners”.
Waning, who resides in Carmel with his wife, Kate, and his two daughters, Addison and Hannah, will also contribute content to the Downtown with Rich Kimball website and assist with the program’s expansive social media efforts.
