Maine Football Spring Practice

The University of Maine football team practiced Saturday morning under sunny and breezy conditions at Morse Field. First-year head coach Joe Harasymiak and his staff led the players through a spirited session in the first morning workout of the year. Temple transfer Zaire Williams looked strong at running back during the session. Williams rushed for 533 yards over twelve games with the Owls.

A handful of Black Bears were held out of any contact drills as they recuperate from injuries but it was clear that this 2016 group sensed a new excitement about the program, led by the nation’s youngest Division 1 coach and his youthful, energetic staff. New coordinators Liam Coen and Corey Hetherman showed themselves to be hands-on coaches, who also are establishing strong relationships to their players.

Spring workouts continue through the month and will wrap up with the annual Jeff Cole Scrimmage on May 7.
