Downtown & The Family Dog presents: Good Neighbor

Do you know a Good Neighbor? Downtown wants to honor them with our new Good Neighbor Award, sponsored by The Family Dog, 6 Mill Street in Orono.

We want to hear about those people who do good works in their community as volunteers, organizers, or simply by helping out. Send your nominations to downtownwithrichkimball@gmail.com and each month we’ll select an honoree, who will receive a free meal courtesy of The Family Dog, and they will also qualify for our Good Neighbor of the Year Award, which includes a donation from us to the local charity organization of their choice.

To nominate someone deserving, send the name of the person as well as a quick description as to why they are worthy of this monthly award.  Also please put “Good Neighbor nomination” in the email subject line.

The Family Dog, at 6 Mill Street in Orono, is the place to go for great food, drinks, and environment when you’re in town or visiting the University of Maine.  Come into The Dog and enjoy great specials everyday and make sure to tell them that Downtown sent you!

Susan Dunham Shane is a tireless and devoted member of the Eddington Community. She is on the board of the Eddington Historical Society and along with her husband is a driving force behind the renovation of the society’s historic Commins Hall. She works on the many fundraising events that have begun transforming this grand old building to its former glory, including work parties, community suppers, bottle drives and talent shows. Her enthusiasm and humor never flag in this effort.
Additionally, Susan is the lighting designer for Ten Bucks Theatre that now call Commins Hall home.
She is a diligent and dedicated member of the Eddington Planning Board where she has helped develop several key ordinances and protocols that have benefitted everyone in town., and is an advocate for our seniors, on whom she keeps great tabs–especially those who live alone. Susan is an Eddington treasure.

    Hi Rich,
I was just reading about a couple of teenage boys who happened upon a fire last night in Brewer of/off Eastern Ave. Had they not gone to “investigate” the smoke they say, a whole family might have perished. The came upon the house to find the attached garage fully involved on its roof and the called 911 then got the family out who had no idea what was going on. Children were asleep in bed I guess. Talk about good timing.
Anyhow, that was my thought for this…and who doesn’t love a good hot dog but a teenage boy! 🙂
