Bob Ryan on the history of the three-pointer and expanding the DH to both leagues

Bob Ryan of the Boston Globe joined Downtown to talk about a wide range of topics, including his recent column for the Globe about the origins of the NBA three-pointer. Ryan remebered watching the first ever three point shot from Celtic Chris Ford, one of only two in the first game when it became the rule. Bob shared his thoughts on the three point play today, especially his disdain for the play among young players. Ryan also explained that he sees no reason to continue only having the designated hitter in the American League, especially with interleague games continuing throughout the season now.

Love the Ryan story about the first three-pointer in NBA history. That’s good radio. (I believe the show’s host actually used that phrase with me once following an interview I had with Palombo-McCallie on the Sunday Press Box on your air waves back in the day.
